Choosing a college can be very difficult, especially if students are transitioning from high school and living at home to being on their own. It is helpful to know some of the great things DMACC offers on the Boone Campus. Patty Harrison, head volleyball coach and academic adviser said the best part of the Boone campus is the people, the staff, and the students.

“From the minute you walk onto campus, the moment you walk in, it is cozy. You don’t have to walk outside between classes. There are five advisors on one campus. The provost is right across the hall. It is a great first step.”

DMACC has two bookkeepers in the finance office and five advisors on campus. According to DMACC student Cassie Woods, “The greatest thing about DMACC is the family feel of it all. All of the professors are super encouraging and get you where you need to be. They are all very professional and talk highly of each other.”

One thing many students worry about is college expenses. DMACC decreases that stress by providing quality education for the cheapest tuition in Iowa, along with providing scholarships to students. According to English professor Dennis Thompson, “Most of them are trying to succeed in the right amount of time for a great price.”

Another way to ease the stress of tuition fees is by getting good grades. When a student keeps their grade point average (GPA) above a 3.5, they are eligible for the Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa. These allow students to enhance their educational experience while setting them up for scholarship opportunities and gaining financial benefits. That being said, if students are worried about grades, DMACC has the Academic Achievement Center (AAC), where students can find free tutors to help with various subjects.

Thompson also said that diversity is a strength of the Boone campus.

“(They) come from different backgrounds, some people are right out of high school, and nontraditional students. The students are the best part.”

There are several opportunities to get involved. The Boone campus is the only DMACC campus that offers sports such as basketball, baseball, softball, golf, volleyball, and cross country. There are also various clubs on campus, consisting of Social Justice Club (SJC), Phi Beta Lamda (PTL), In My Boots, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), Nursing Club, Fitness and Sports Management Club, Pep Band, Theatre, Young Republicans Club, and Student Activity Council (SAC).

The SAC has planned events like free movies, guest speakers, food specials, hypnotists, and other entertainments like dodge ball tournaments.
