Freshman Wali Parks of Iowa City scored 20 points and sophomore Brendan Lipovsky of Fairfield, Neb., added 18 as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men’s basketball team dropped a 65-64 decision to Pure Prep Academy (PPA) November 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

The loss was the first of the season for the Bears, who began the campaign with three consecutive victories.

DMACC trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and were down 37-28 at intermission. The Bears shot 48 percent in the second half (15-of-31), but failed to make a field goal the last three and a half minutes of the game. DMACC finished the contest with 25 field goals in 52 attempts for 48 percent. The Bears made just four of 17 three-point attempts and were just 10-of-23 at the free throw line.

Freshman Knowledge Darby of Brooklyn, N.Y., pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds to lead DMACC to a 43-27 advantage on the boards. Freshman Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., had six rebounds and sophomore Nibra White of Evanston, Ill., dished out nine assists and had a pair of steals in the loss.

The DMACC men’s basketball team will host the Baymont Inn Classic Nov. 18 and 19 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will face County Upper Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 and will play Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) at 4 p.m. on Nov. 19.
