Freshman Wali Parks of Iowa City led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men’s basketball team came away with a 66-63 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) November 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

The Tigers are a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program and DMACC is a member of NJCAA Division II.

Sophomore Nibra White of Evanston, Ill., and freshmen Malcolm Ruff of Chicago, Ill., and Shammond Ivory of Perry had 12 points apiece in the win.

DMACC, which improved to 6-2, led 27-24 at halftime, shot 40 percent in the win, connecting of 20 of 50 field goal attempts, including 3-of-11 from three-point range. DMACC was 23-of-34 at the free throw line.

MCC came away with a 37-35 advantage on the boards with Ruff and freshman Nysir Marshburn grabbing seven rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. White had a team-high three assists and Parks led the Bears in steals with three.

In a game played Nov. 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium, the Bears defeated Little Priest Academy, 78-69. Freshman Knowledge Darby of Brooklyn, N.Y., led five DMACC players in double figures with 18 points. Parks and Ivory had 12 points apiece in the win and Marshburn and Ruff scored 10 points apiece. Knowledge recorded a double-double with 20 rebounds as the Bears had a 51-46 advantage on the boards.

DMACC will play its second consecutive game against an NJCAA Division I opponent Nov. 30 when the Bears host Southeastern Community College (SECC). Game time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
