Freshman Wali Parks of Iowa City led four players in double figures with a season-high 34 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men’s basketball team defeated McCook Community College (MCC), 91-86, November 12 at Ottumwa.

Sophomore Nibra White of Evanston, Ill., came away with 17 points, freshman C.J. Payawal of Gurnee, Ill., scored 16 points and sophomore Brendan Lipovsky of Fairfield, Neb., finished with 12 as the Bears improved to 3-0 for the season.

DMACC shot 58 for the game, connecting on 33 of 57 field goal attempts, including 15-of-26 in the second half when the Bears pulled away from a 44-44 halftime tie to get the win. DMACC was 18-of-31 in the opening half.

Both teams finished with 32 rebounds. Freshman Nijaron Palmer of Newark, N.J. pulled down seven rebounds to lead DMACC and Parks and freshman Malcolm Ruff of Chicago, Ill., had six rebounds apiece. White led DMACC in assists with 10 and also topped the team in steals with three.

The DMACC mens’s basketball team will host Pure Prep Academy Nov. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
