The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball team improved to 17-5 for the season and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after sweeping a doubleheader against Ellsworth Community College (ECC) March 26 at the DMACC softball diamond.

The Bears, ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won the opener by a 16-1 score and took the nightcap, 14-2. Both games were called because of the mercy rule after ECC batted in the top of the fifth.

DMACC opened up a 2-0 lead on Sutton’s two-run home run in the bottom of the first. The Bears took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, padded their advantage to 8-0 after two innings, put the game out of reach with five runs in the third and closed out the win with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
