On March 9th in Mason City, the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) women’s team played Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Women’s Basketball Championship.  The Bears lost in a final score of 60-68.

DMACC lost all three matchups against Kirkwood this season. KCC was leading 23-17 after the first period, 35-32 at halftime, and held a 57-48 lead at the conclusion of the 3rd quarter.  

The Bears struggled offensively throughout the game.  DMACC shot 15-62 from the field and 7-29 from the 3-point line.

Kirkwood however, was much more efficient, shooting 24-57 and 4-16 from 3.  The Eagles outrebounded the Bears 44-39 and had 6 more assists.

DMACC was led in scoring by Asia Mena with 17 points and Ellie Horn with 15.  Grace Stalzer led the team in rebounds, grabbing 13. Shalice Porter came off the bench and led the team with 4 assists.  

DMACC ended their season with a 16-15 record.  The Bears are graduating 5 players: Aliyah Robinson, Taylor Abernathy, Grace Stalzer, Emma Rouse, and Ellie Horn.
