Women’s sports at DMACC had a fantastic week, pulling out tons of awards, honors and W’s. Softball, volleyball, golf and basketball all had their hand in these accolades.

Softball moved up to #6 in the NJCAA National polls after winning three games against Kirkwood at home this weekend. Solid performances from Sophie Maras and Lexi Lander earned them both player of the week honors from the ICCAC. Maras earned Player of the Week with a stat line of 5 HRs 16 RBIs and 10 SBs. Lander received Pitcher of the Week going 2-0 with 18 Ks and 1 save.

Volleyball finished as the runner up in Region XI-B tournament. They had five players including coach Patty Harrison receive all conference and tournament honors. Kaylie Welch and Anna Niehaus were both named to the Region XI-B All Tournament team. Katelyn Courtney was named to the All Conference second team, Jordan Neely and Niehaus earned honorable mention from the ICCAC. Elizabeth Pierce, Welch and Courtney were also all named to the Region XI-B first team. Last but certainly not least, Patty Harrison was named Division II Coach of the Year.

Women’s Basketball dominated in their semi-final matchup against Northern Iowa Community College, winning by 22 points. The Bears will face off against Iowa Central on Saturday, April 10th at 1 p.m. in hopes to advance to their first ever national tournament. DMACC split their season series against Iowa Central 1-1 with both games being decided by single digits.

DMACC Women’s Golf also got in on the rest of the school’s winning ways. They won the DMACC invitational, with five players finishing inside the top 10. Krista Swenson shot an 81 to lead the golf team, which was second overall in the invitational. The Bears shot a 353 as a team which was nine strokes better than NIACC. Aubrey Duncan and Lydia Steier both shot 90s, which tied them both for 7th. Frannie Brown and Quinn Eslinger also tied, instead in 10th with after shooting a 92.

With such solid performances all around and more postseason play to come, be sure to root for all of DMACCs women’s sports teams!
