Spring break is a time in life for college kids all across the country to get away from the stress of schoolwork. While some kids take the time to go visit family and friends back home, others head south in search of warmer temps. In the case for spring athletes, some of those luxuries are replaced by doubleheaders and tournament games. Both DMACC baseball and softball teams used their break for the sport they love.
DMACC Softball continued their season over spring break, finishing with a 9-1 record over that span. Their 10-game stretch started with a double-header vs. Neosho County in which they won both games by a score of 6-2. The Bears would play in another doubleheader the next day going 1-1 vs. Grayson College. The 8-1 loss to Grayson College would be the Bear’s first loss of the season. The Bears would answer their first loss by finishing 6-0 in their stretch with three doubleheader sweeps from Allen County College, Johnson County College and Kirkwood.
DMACC split a doubleheader with Kirkwood on the first day back from break, losing the first contest 9-3 and winning the second 2-1. The Bears feature a total record of 24-3 on the season, along with a 6-2 record in the conference. The girls will next compete on Tuesday, March 29 in a doubleheader vs. Southeastern. The first game will begin at 12:00 with the second game to follow at 2:00.
DMACC Baseball competed in four total contests over spring break. The boys completed their four game stretch going 4-0 and outscoring their opponents 42-11, including three mercy rules. They first took on Century College at home, winning both games by mercy rule with scores of 11-1 and 14-4. Both games only lasted six innings. The boys would then take on two tough teams the following Sunday, battling Iowa Western and Southwestern College. The Bears were victorious against the Reivers with a final score of 3-2, and they would go on to mercy rule Southwestern College in eight innings by a score of 14-4.
DMACC Baseball presents a 15-7 overall record and are on a 7-game win streak. They are hitting at a .311 average and slugging at a .491 mark. The boys will next compete on Wednesday, March 30 at Marshalltown Community College with their hot streak on the line.
