Starting a team from the ground up is never easy, but in their first year, the DMACC Dance Team has already created a long-lasting legacy.

From day one, the team began getting involved in school spirit and student life. The dance team performed on the sidelines and during halftimes, supporting other DMACC athletics, including volleyball and both women’s and men’s basketball. The team’s presence grew DMACC’s school spirit, bringing more energy and excitement to our games.

Outside of athletics, the team represented DMACC in the community at events and also participated in RVTV and the Cy-Hawk celebration week, showing support for our community.

Over the school year, the team attended many competitions throughout the year. At the state, the team placed 4th in pom, earning their first trophy in DMACC history. This was a huge accomplishment for a first-year program.

But that was just the start. The team continued to make history, competing at other competitions, including DTU virtual regionals, where they placed 2nd in hip-hop and 3rd in both jazz and pom. At The Dance Challenge (TDC), the team made an outstanding accomplishment, placing 1st in every dance and earning Grand Champions in jazz.

The dance team closed out their season at DTU Nationals, where they placed 4th in jazz and 6th in both pom and hip-hop, competing against highly recognized programs across the country.

Throughout the many successes, the dance team has had to face many hardships. As a first-year team, the dancers had to adjust to the new program, new coaches, new expectations, and new friendships. With the support of the coaches and the school, the team was able to make many strides forward while improving and growing throughout the year.

DMACC Dance Team’s first year wasn’t about placings; it was focused on building a long-lasting legacy. The brand new team has already turned into something bigger, and everyone will fear the bear.
