The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team saw its record fall to 8-13 following a 6-5 loss to Johnson County Community College (JCCC) March 28 at Overland Park, Kan.
The Bears trailed 4-0 after three innings and were down 5-1 after seven, but rallied for four runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 5-5. JCCC got the win with a run in the bottom of the 10th.
Freshmen Carson Youngquist of Sussex, Wis., and Jake Hahn of Linwood, Kan., paced DMACC’s eight-hit attack with two hits apiece. Each drove in one run and sophomores Luke Fegen and Nick Moffitt, both of West Des Moines, and Michael Michalak of Rochester, Minn., had one RBI apiece. Hahn and Michalak accounted for the Bears’ only extra-base hits in the game with doubles.
Freshman Luke Wade of Wayzata, Minn., pitched the first two and a third innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out one and walked one. Freshman Matt Lien of Pine Island, Minn., worked four and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and freshman Luke Longmuir of Cottage Grove, Minn., pitched two and two-third innings, giving up one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Longmuir fell to 0-3 with the loss.
The DMACC baseball team will face Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in doubleheaders April 1 and 2 at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles are 18-7 overall and 4-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). DMACC is 1-3 in league play.
