Freshman Avery Fuhs of Webster City shared medalist honors with a one-over-par 73 in leading the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Spring Preview April 14 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

Fuhs’ score helped the Bears to 323 strokes in the tournament, good for fourth place. Kirkwood Community College (KCC) won the title with 300 strokes and the Eagles’ Max Throne shared medalist honors with Fuhs.

Other DMACC results included a 78 by freshman Alec Fuhs of Webster City; a 79 by freshman Aiden FItchko of Huxley; an 84 by freshman Dalton Huseman of Boone; 85s by freshmen Grant Waline of Nevada and Parker Davidson of Altoona; an 87 by freshman Robert Flattery of Fort Dodge; an 89 by sophomore Jess Marlow of Roland; a 90 by freshman Trey Mason of Ankeny; and a 94 by freshman Sage Fitchko of Huxley.

Alec Fuhs tied for ninth; Aiden Fitchko tied for 12th; Huseman tied for 22nd; Waline and Davidson tied for 24th; Flattery tied for 30th; Marlow finished in 33rd place; Mason was 34th; and Sage Fitchko finished in 38th place.

On April 17, the Bears completed in the NIACC Invite at the Mason City Country Club, finishing second to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) with 302 strokes. ILCC won the title with 297 strokes.

DMACC scores included a 74 by Avery Fuhs, 76s by Davidson, Alec Fuhs and Flattery and a 78 by Huseman.

The DMACC men’s golf team will play in the Iowa Central Invitational April 25 at Fort Dodge.
