DMACC Theater has started rehearsal for the fall play. Eight student actors, two production assistants, and Director Kay Mueller are performing See How They Run. It is an old English play, about a woman and her associates encounter a Russian spy on the run from captivity by the Police.

The last time that DMACC performed this play was in 1999. The director, Mueller, says the play is lively, and exciting, and the last time it was performed it was really fun.

The DMACC Theater Program is open to all students who have an interest in acting and or production. Students may take a credited theater class or strictly participate as an extracurricular activity.

There are two plays every year, one for each semester. Auditions are open to the student body, as it can be extracurricular; there are normally 8-12 students involved in production at a time.

Rehearsal is Monday through Friday from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. in the auditorium, if at any point you want to check it out and see if it might be an interest. A lot of time goes into production, and being a part of it demands a lot of free time.

Dustin Reis has been an active participant of the theater program for close to a year now. This will be his second performing night as a member of the cast.

Reis was a focused student, his first three terms at DMACC were dedicated to school. In the spring of his sophomore year, Reis joined the theater because of his interest in plays.

“I never thought I would ever be on stage before, I was so nervous, thought I couldn’t do it, Kay Mueller encouraged me to do it, and I have her to thank for it,” said Reis.

Reis says that he has gone through some character development since he joined the theater. He has made friends with people who enjoy similar things, and has found something that he considers to be fun.

Now as a first term junior he will be playing the Bishop of Lax, and after having performed before Reis says, “I feel confident, I really do” about performing this time around.

Reis has joined the theater as a work study this semester, because he has already received credit for theater as a class.

With less than a month left the cast is working on their best English (and one Russian) accents to bring you See How They Run on to the stage

Students get in free with their DMACC ID card. While guests and friends are $5 per ticket. Funding goes to future plays and the program itself.

You can see the performance on Nov. 10 and 11, in the DMACC Theater,  room 112, at 7:30 p.m.
