Business Professor Rajendra Sinha in Ankeny Campus is organizing a 9-day trip to China in 2018.

Sinha has been taking DMACC students/faculty to different countries, as part of an international culture educational tour for the past seven years. He thinks it’s crucial for students to have international exploration, to understand other cultures, because that’s where the real education is, he said. “Next year, I’ve decided to take students to China. China is very important, very big. Chinese culture and traditions are very rich.”

The trip is affordable and exciting, Sinha said, and it’s open to DMACC faculty, spouses, relatives, students, students’ friends. It’s open to everybody, as long as they have some association with DMACC.“We will go on March 7th to 15th in 2018. We will go to Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai. From 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, everyday there will be one activity after the other. There will be a tour director with us throughout the whole trip. We’ll be looking at different temples, financial centers, and different historical places,” said Sinha.

Because of globalization, learning from another culture is significant in today’s world. “Most importantly, I want to show DMACC students, in 30 years, how China has transformed from an agricultural society to a very important, modern society. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s very safe. Almost every thing is included, airfare, most of the meals, hotels. It’s the most affordable tour anyone can actually find in any place.”

Political Science Professor, Jeffrey Schroeder, also gives his comments on this trip, “Compare to living in Iowa, I think it’ll be a big change. Everything from food to how busy it is. Chinese economy is one thing to read about it or hear about it than see it yourself. I have always wanted to go to Xi’an to see the Terracotta Army. Shanghai is a business center; it’s like New York as far as its importance on finance and economics. Beijing is the capital of China, going to the Forbidden City, the largest palace complex in the world, that alone is worth the trip.”
