Street style and the “texture” style is all the rage for this winter. Want to coordinate your baggy sweater and ankle boots with this style and be time-efficient and economical? Banner News has some tips and tricks for you.
When it comes to fashion, you might be thinking: “I don’t have the time for that. I work 20 hours per week and am a full time student.” Banner News did an email interview with Jazmine Alaniz, President of the DMACC Ankeny Fashion Club. She said: “Street Style” is very popular this season, and with that being said, to the pull off the perfect street look, it doesn’t take time at all. Sweaters, sweats, joggers, and oversized tees are essentials for the street style craze. Whether are rolling out of bed 10 minutes before your 8 am, or simply that you just don’t feel like getting “dressed up,” throw on some sneakers and go. On colder days this outfit can be paired with a bomber jacket or oversized denim jacket.”

With the tight time schedule being taken care of, budget will be the next consideration. Alaniz’s advice is “Fashion trends are always recycling so don’t be afraid to raid your mom’s, grandma’s or older sister’s closets for the perfect staple pieces. When on a budget, thrift stores and re-sale stores will become your best friends. Don’t be shy to dig around. One man’s trash, is another persons treasure! If these aren’t your style, affordable retailers to browse through are; Forever 21, H&M, Fashion Nova, and Target!”
Now, you have your time worked out and budget issue solved. The frigid Iowa weather probably will be your next obstacle. Alaniz gave her opinion on how to keep warm and fashionable at the same time. She said,”With frigid winds and less sunlight right around the corner, stock up on cozy sweaters and cardigans. This season texture is in and is all the rave. Anything from knit, to tweed, velvet, and corduroy are just the fabrics your closet is asking for. Another craze this season is denim! Grab your favorite jeans and pair them with a cozy sweater, or on an even colder day, this look would be great to add a denim jacket or even a leather jacket! This fall and winter those boots are ready to walk, and is the perfect staple piece to pair with just about anything!”
Banner News also interviewed Emma, a lead sales associate at Express, which located at North Grand Mall in Ames. (Emma preferred not to use her last name.) She said, “We do have a couple of really awesome winter coats right now. We have the blacks and grays that help keep it a little bit more business causal but also keep you warm. They are more of a pea coat style. They are a little bit longer which are super nice for Iowa winters. We also have some really nice new wool scarves in. Another tip I would say is definitely don’t be scared to layer it up, like a nice button down underneath a blouse.” The Express store’s hours are Mondays through Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Sundays: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
