Music these days is different than before the pandemic hit. I know that my Spotify playlists have changed quite a bit, and I love all of the music that I’ve found during the pandemic. Songs by artists like Cosmo Sheldrake, Salem Ilese, and Grandson are some of my favorites. I probably would’ve not found those songs if the pandemic didn’t give me the time to discover them. I have more time for music and finding new artists and songs if I grow tired of my more classic picks.

While music itself hasn’t specifically changed, the way that we go about it is completely different. I have developed several more playlists simply because I have the time to coordinate my music to my mood. In fact, Spotify released playlists based on which songs I’ve listened to most in 2020. It consists of 100 songs that I’ve listened to the most over the year, and I was mildly surprised to see my top two playlists to fall asleep to combined in their ranks. I suppose that will happen when they replay over the course of six hours or so. Sometimes I even keep them on during the day for ambiance.

There are specific songs that I like to listen to when I am in certain moods. When I’m happy, I like upbeat songs that I can sing to, and when I’m sad I prefer ballads with slower tempos that are closer to my belt if I do want to sing. I like to turn to Metal and Alternative music when anger decides to dominate my mood, and I generally keep away from country music. So, here are some examples (warning, some of these do contain explicit content):

Happy:

Victorious by Panic! At The Disco

What’s Up Danger by Blackway and Black Caviar

So What by P!nk

Unstoppable by The Score

Sad:

Impossible Year by Panic! At The Disco

Older by Ben Platt

In Case You Don’t Live Forever by Ben Platt

King by Lauren Aquilina

Angry:

I Hate Everything About You by Three Days Grace

Numb by Linkin Park

Rat A Tat by Fall Out Boy and Courtney Love

You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid by The Offspring

When I need sleep:

Be Alright by Dean Lewis

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol

Mysterious Paths by Marco Belloni

The Moss by Cosmo Sheldrake

My music taste varies over a quite broad spectrum. These songs get me through most of my days depending on my mood, and I highly recommend giving them a listen if you are so inclined. My general taste in music is broader than the Pacific ocean, however I will still keep away from Country like it has Covid.
