The Boone campus has a new face around campus as Amanda Strayer has filled the role of Student Activities Coordinator.
Strayer is originally from Hudson, IA, where she graduated from Hudson High. She then continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa. Graduating summa cum laude, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in communication studies and a minor in psychology.
On the Boone campus, Strayer’s duties include planning, developing, and promoting recreational and student leadership programming. She also provides a comprehensive student activities program with opportunities for social interaction, wellness, community building, and personal growth through student activities and clubs.
With October being the first month for activities, here is a list of all she has completed: The Stay-A-Float Stress event, Bear Walk, Halloween door decorating, and Breast Cancer Awareness activities.
The last event she has planned for the month of October is the Boo Bash. This event is a Halloween dance in the Courter Center with music, a photo booth, snacks, and a costume contest.
Strayer stated that intramurals on the Boone campus are going to become more prominent and she hopes for student engagement.
“I am excited to help increase collaboration and engagement within the campus and the DMACC community, while genuinely connecting with students and staff,” Strayer said.
On top of all her responsibilities at DMACC, Strayer is attending Upper Iowa University to obtain her Master’s in Business Administration with an emphasis on organizational development.
She currently serves on the Iowa TRIO Board of Directors, the state chapter of the Educational Opportunity Association as the public relations, communications, and technology chair.
