Staying in town for Spring Break can sometimes get boring and repetitive, but it doesn’t have to be! There are plenty of local events to enjoy during your staycation.
One such event is the Boone Community Theatre Open Mic night here in Boone. On March 17th at 6pm there will be an open mic night at 106 S. Webster St. There will be a potluck along with a $2 fee per act. People are able to do comedy acts, poetry, acting, dance, and many more forms, however it is asked is that all performances be family friendly.
There are also chances to see movies throughout the week at bargain prices! There have been many new movies that can be seen, including Black Panther, A Wrinkle in Time, The Strangers: Prey at Night, Game Night, and many other movies. There are two local movie theaters that offer different choices on discount nights. One is in Boone, The Boone Theater, and one is in Ames, Cinemark Movies 12. At the movie theater in Boone there are free popcorn nights on Wednesdays and in Ames there are discount nights on Tuesday nights. Seeing a movie is always fun and can be made cheaper if you go on the right nights.
One last option is to go look in the local junk shops! There are several different junk shops that have old fashioned furniture, antiques, and treasures just waiting to be found. The stores find old things and refurbish them to make them new and usable, but allowing the items to hold their charm and character. Going and looking at the shops can be fun, and if you buy anything they add character to your home. There are a few of these shops in Boone, including Old Boone Market, Iron Horse Antique Mall, Furniture Zone, and Paradox.
While Spring Break is definitely a time to relax, watch Netflix, and sleep, make time to go out and enjoy some of the local opportunities and enjoy Spring Break.
