February is National Black History Month, and DMACC is holding several events to celebrate. This week there are two speakers, Micah Byars and Margo Foreman. Micah Byars will be speaking from 12:15-12:45pm Monday, February 11th, in the auditorium. Byars is in his eighth season on the ISU men’s basketball staff as the Director of Basketball Operations.
The second speaker this week is Margo Foreman. Margo Foreman will be speaking from 10:00-11:00am, Wednesday, February 13th, in the auditorium. Foreman manages equal opportunity, affirmative action, discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct programs and serves as the Iowa State University Title IX coordinator.
This past week, on January 28th, a speaker from Penn State University came to speak at DMACC about Race and Sports. Jaime Schultz spoke about the relationship between race and sports that has been in place since the creation of sports. Her main points included: Sports isn’t color blind, sports has always been political, and athletes of color have always been activists.
